Forest Experience Helmet and Overalls

Frequently Asked Questions

How many people are on the course?

Five people to one instructor. During the summer months we extend to six people in extreme circumstances, courses would go on longer. This is not something we do on a regular basis.

How much driving time do you have?

Depending on what course you do how much time you get in the car varies. You would be on a rotation system along with the other participants, to say exact driving time is difficult but for example on a one day course you would get more competitive driving time than you would on a one day National Rally event. The only time the instructor drives is during the short handbrake/powerslide demonstration and on the final lap when the instructor gets his revenge.

What cars do you use?

Ford Escort RS2000 (Rear Wheel Drive), Peugeot 306 (Front Wheel Drive) and a Volkswagen Golf GTi (Front Wheel Drive). Front wheel drive is only available on the one or two day course, preference needs to be specified when booking a course.

What type of surface do you drive on?

900-acre forest complex with road conditions the same as you see on the Rally of Great Britain. With an open quarry section to practice close car control e.g. Hand Brake Turns, Power Sliding.

Do you sell any merchandise or souvenirs?

Yes, we have unique Higgins Rally School merchandise available to buy as an extra special souvenir of your day. View the range now »

What days do you run?

We could physically run seven days a week, however we have chosen not to run courses on Mondays or Tuesdays so we can maintain the up-keep of the forest. Having said that we can be flexible and would run courses on either of these days for group bookings. Our standard week would consist of courses on weekends and two other days during the week (flexible days.)

What time do I need to arrive?

Please arrive at Cambrian House at the time specified on the schedule. Failure to arrive on time will mean that you would forfeit your course as the forest rally venue is not at Cambrian House, you can only access the Forest when you are accompanied by an instructor at the Forest Experience.

Do you sell gift vouchers?

Yes, they start from £50 (part payment towards course). You have a number of options.

  • Pay a £50 deposit, £250 for the 2 day residential course (balance payable 28 days prior to course)
  • Pay for the course in full
  • Book a date when ordering voucher
  • Leave voucher open (valid for 12 months from date of purchase - courses MUST be taken within the 12 months, we therefore recommend that you book at least 3 months prior to expiry.)

What method of payment do you accept?

Visa, Switch or Mastercard or cheques made payable to "The Forest Experience."

What type of clothing is required?

The shoes that you wear are the most essential item. Many styles of trainers are not suitable as the soles are too thick or too wide. Squash shoes are good as are any narrow fitting this-soled shoes. Please bring good warm outdoor clothing, especially in winter as the forest is high (1500 ft) and exposed. On any course incorporating quad bikes please bring wellies, we provide the waterproof clothing.

Please note, you will not be able to participate if the correct type of footwear is not worn.
